Many parents think braces are only for teenagers, but did you know that jaw and teeth problems can be detected as early as age 6–7? This is when we start seeing signs of malocclusion or improper alignment of the teeth and jaws.
There are 3 major types of malocclusion:
Class I Malocclusion:
The bite is normal, but the teeth may be crowded, spaced, or rotated. This can be fixed with braces or space maintainers if caught early.
Class II Malocclusion (Overbite):
The upper teeth sit too far forward compared to the lower teeth. Often seen in children who thumb suck or have small lower jaws. Early treatment may include growth-modifying appliances to guide jaw development and reduce the need for future extractions or surgery.
😯 Class III Malocclusion (Underbite):
The lower teeth are too far forward, or the upper jaw is underdeveloped. This may require early orthopedic appliances to avoid long-term complications or jaw surgery in adulthood.
👶 Why Early Diagnosis Helps:
At Hexadent Clinic, Nerul, we perform early orthodontic assessments to identify such issues during your child’s growth phase. Starting treatment at the right time can reduce the severity, treatment time, and even avoid full braces later.
We recommend a preventive ortho check-up by age 7. It’s painless, quick, and could save your child from bigger treatments in the future. A confident smile starts with timely care. Let’s catch it early and correct it right!
